Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Formation
The members of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board are appointed by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners pursuant to Article IV, Section 4.07 of the Charter of Broward County, Florida. The function of the Advisory Board (according to Volume I, Chapter 12, Part V, Section 12.47 of the Broward County Administrative Code, amended on October 17, 2000) will be to:

Provide an ongoing process allowing public access to the planning, development, management, and programming of the county parks and recreation system.

Plan and recommend to the Board of County Commissioners proposed projects and activities for the non-land acquisition components of the 2000 Safe Parks and Land Preservation Bond Issue.

Serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners on matters relating to the Parks and Recreation Division.

Each county commissioner is represented on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board by two appointees from his/her voting district.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board holds meetings at various park locations on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 a.m. The Board also holds public participation forums two evenings a year. All meetings, however, are open to the public. For more information, please call 954-357-8107.

Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Function
On October 17, 2000, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 2000-1229 of the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, amending Volume 1, Chapter 12, Part V, Broward County Administrative Code relating to the Broward County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, to revise Section 12.47 in relation to the 2000 Safe Parks and Land Preservation Board Issue; designating the Broward County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to serve in a citizens' oversight committee capacity for the non-land acquisition components of the Safe Parks and Land Preservation Bond Issue; providing for severability; providing for inclusion in the Broward County Administrative Code; and providing for an effective date.

He started his banking career with Marine Midland Banks (New York) and in 1971 moved to South Florida where he developed a retail banking (branching) strategy for Southeast Banks. He was later responsible for Southeast's National and Correspondent Banking Division prior to being elected President and a Director of the Great American Bank of Dade County in 1981. He was also elected President and a Director of the Great American Bank of North Miami Beach in 1982 before the bank's merger with Barnett Bank. With Barnett Bank, he was Senior Vice-President and responsible for Executive and Professional Banking in Broward County. In 1987 Bill left Barnett Bank to organize Equitable Bank. Equitable has total assets in excess of $135 million and has received the highest ratings from Bauer Financial Services and Veribanc, Inc. Banking centers are located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, North Miami Beach, and North Springs.
