Broward County Parks Chip Holiday Trees
The Broward County Parks and Recreation Division is committed to recycling through its annual Chip-A-Tree program. The initiative allows Broward County residents to bring holiday trees to a park where they will be chipped and used for landscaping throughout the park system. Some cities also offer curbside recycling of trees, check with your city to see if a tree left curbside will be recycled.
The 2009 program was successful! Thank you to everyone who made that special effort to bring their tree to a park. 9,943 trees were chipped into mulch and used in the parks!
Instead of tossing their tree in the trash, environmentally-conscious park patrons saved 124 tons from the waste stream.
Next year's program begins December 26, 2009 and ends January 24, 2010.
- Drop off at designated locations within the park between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. except Tuesdays at parks that are closed.
- Remove all decorations, wires, lights, plastic bags, and stands before leaving the tree.
- Artificial trees will not be accepted.
- Only personal vehicles will be allowed to leave trees, no truckloads.
- There is no fee to drop off the holiday tree for recycling.
