Classes Offered at Broward County Parks

Dance, Cheerleading and Baton Twirling is taught by Wendy Russell's Superstars at two parks.  In addition to classes, the Florida Super Stars perform yearly half time shows for the Miami Heat, University of Miami Hurricanes, Disney World shows and manySuperstars at a Miami Heat basketball game local community events. Classes are Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brian Piccolo Park and Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Tree Tops Park.  For more information, call the park where you would like to take lessons or visit www.floridasuperstars.com.   You can also e-mail misswendy@floridasuperstars.com for personal attention.

Liturgical dance classes are now offered at Roosevelt Gardens Park on Wednesdays by Jesus Kingdom Prophetic Dancers, Inc.  Classes are $10 per class.  Ages 7 to 12 are invited to the 6 to 7 p.m. class; ages 13 to 18 from 7 to 8 p.m. and adults over 18 for the 8 to 9 p.m. class. For more information, contact the park office at 954-327-3888 or call the dance instructor directly at 754-422-1979.

Educational Farm & Birthday Programs
Tradewinds Park Educational Farm and birthday programs reflect the history of farm activities in South Florida, educating the public about the various types of farm animals native to the area.  While housing livestock in a healthy environment we provide hands-on enrichment programs for children.

Children see a live chicken up close at the farmThe Educational Farm’s experienced and knowledgeable staff offer a range of programs for children from preschoolers through middle school students.  These programs strive to teach a love and respect for animals and their environment. The cost is $6 per child with one teacher and two chaperones admitted free per class. The tour provides a variety of educational experiences, such as hands-on involvement with the barnyard animals, a walk through Tradewinds Farm House, a windmill, a lesson on farm animal nutrition, a walk through a cypress wetland, the development of a hen’s egg and much more.

All field trips and birthday parties should be reserved in advance.  Call Tradewinds Stables at 954-968-3875 between 8a.mm and 4 p.m. or email twfarmtours@comcast.net  for reservations.  Pony rides and hayride reservations must be made separately and combined with the farm tour.  Reservations for rides must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.  The haywagon holds approximately 30 children and five adults.  Haywagon rentals are $75 for the first hour and $45 for each additional hour.
 
Fly Right 
This is instruction on operation of radio-control airplanes at Markham Park. Both adults and children of all ages are invited to take these classes.  Classes are offered any day of the week upon appointment.  Cost is $30 for a one hour session; $86 for a three-hour session; $599 for a five-day pro pilot course and there is a $20 fee for an airframe inspection and flight test.  For more information, call David at 954-816-4410.
 
Fun Fitness: Workout Classes
Chris Carr, trainerTradewinds Park "Fun Fitness" classes are offered on Tuesdays from 6:00-9:00pm and Saturday mornings from 8:30-9:30am. Yoga instruction is available at several parks:

Karate is offered at T.Y. Park.  Joseph Williams is doing business as the Gold Coast Martial Arts Association and charges $40 per month.  For more information, call 954-985-1980.

Steve NorrisSkeet and Trap Shooting Lessons are taught by Steve Norris at Markham Park's Target Range.  Norris is an NRA Certified Shotgun Instructor and ATA Range Safety Officer. Mommies in Motion
 - an aerobics and fitness class - is held every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and alternate Saturdays (2nd and 4th Saturdays) of each month at T.Y. Wakeboarding at C.B. Smith

Water-Skiing and Wakeboarding

Broward Ski & Wakeboard School at C.B. Smith Park offers lessons and rides on a private freshwater lake. All forms of water-skiing, wakeboarding, slalom knee boarding, barefoot skiing, and tubing are taught, using a ski boat with wakeboard tower, wedge, perfect pass, and training boom. All equipment is supplied, or you can bring your own. Open weekday afternoons and all day Saturdays and Sundays year round. Party packages and summer camp specials are also available.
