Family Fun

In September 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the "No Child Left Inside Act," which is aimed at improving outdoor education programming by giving states funding for teacher training, environmental literacy and research. In September 2006, the Broward County Parks and Recreation Division launched a new fitness program, Commit 2B Fit!® - It Starts in Parks, to encourage people of all ages to get active.

Residents need to become more responsible for their own health as well as the health of their children. Children can benefit from regular exercise and introducing them to nature will get them off the couch and outside. It is widely known that regular physical activity improves health by:

  • controlling weight
  • lowering blood pressure
  • reducing the risk of many diseases
  • promoting psychological well-being
