Fern Forest Nature Center Map and Directions

From I-95:  Take Atlantic Blvd. west to Lyons Road South.  You will need to go Directional map to Fern Forestsouth on Lyons Road but must be in the right lane on Atlantic Boulevard because after passing through the intersection you will veer to the right to circle around to head south on Lyons Road.  Once you pass through the intersection again, the nature center is the first right turn off Lyons Road.

From Florida's Turnpike going north:  Exit Florida's Turnpike at Atlantic Boulevard.  Exit to the west onto Atlantic Boulevsrd. You will need to go south on Lyons Road but must be in the right lane on Atlantic Boulevard because after passing through the intersection you will veer to the right to circle around to head south on Lyons Road.  Once you pass through the intersection again, the nsture center is at the first right turn off Lyons Road.

From Florida's Turnpike going south:  Exit Florida's Turnpike at Coconut Creek and head west to Lyons Road.  Take a left at Lyons Road (now heading south) and the nature center is the first right after the Atlantic Boulevard intersection.

From State Road 7/U.S. Highway 441:  Go east on Atlantic Boulevard to Lyons Road and turn right (heading south) and the nature center is your first right.

Boardwalks and Trails:

Entrance Boardwalk- walkway from parking lot to the nature center and trails.  There is an information gazebo at the entrance to the boardwalk.

Cypress Creek Trail- a ½ mile wheelchair accessible boardwalk through a tropical hardwood hammock, cypress-maple swamp and transitional communities.  A self guided trail booklet is available at the office for a nominal fee.

Butterfly Bridge- a bridge overlooking the main Rewatering canal that is home to many aquatic animals.  This provides access to the foot trails.

Prairie Overlook Trail- a 1 mile ground level trail that loops through an open prairie and a slash pine, oak, palm community.

Prairie Overlook- a raised covered observation pavilion overlooking the prairie.  Handicap accessible with staff assistance.

Maple Walk Trail- a ⅓ mile trail through a red maple swamp. The trail may be wet and boots are recommended.

Wetland Wander Trail- a ⅛ mile foot trail paralleling a canal highlighting a wetland community and a butterfly garden.  The south trail leads you to the Prairie Overlook trail.
