Applicants may apply with or without current Lifeguard Certification.

Applicants without a current Lifeguard Certification will need to obtain certification in life-saving techniques by Ellis & Associates International (a nationally recognized organization approved by Broward County) prior to being hired. The County will provide Ellis training for these applicants prior to employment in this job class. Such applicants will be required to remit $106 to the County for expenses for this training.

Applicants with a current lifeguard certification from a different nationally recognized organization (i.e., Red Cross, YMCA), must obtain certification within 30 days of hire in life-saving techniques by Ellis & Associates International. The County will provide Ellis training for these applicants after employment in this job class. Such employees will be required to remit $106 to the County for expenses for this training.

Lifeguard Salary: $13.32 - $19.99

Applicants selected for these positions will be required to furnish front and back copies of:

1.  Provide a valid Florida driver license or Florida photo ID card.
2. Provide original Social Security card.
3. Successfully complete a physical and a drug/alcohol screening.
4. Undergo a criminal background investigation.
5. Students ONLY – Provide current proof of student documentation.

 

County employees who are working as lifeguards and have a "satisfactory" performance rating do not have to re-take the performance test for promotion within the job class series, demotion, or transfer within the County.
