Markham Park Amenities

Shelters
|
There are six shelters of various sizes available with capacities ranging from 24 to 80 people. All of the shelters have barbecue grills; several have water and electricity. Reservations are required and payment must be made when reserved. Reservation rates vary depending on the size of the shelter and whether the shelter is used on a weekday, weekend, or holiday. Please check our reservation fees page for the current rates. A cash cleanup/security deposit is also required on the day of reserved use. For weekends and holidays, the reservation fee does not include the $1.50 per person park admission fee.

Campgrounds
 |
The newly renovated campground has 88 full-hookup sites (water, electricity, and sewer). Each site also includes a picnic table and a fire ring or barbecue grill. The campground has two restroom facilities with showers.

Reservations are highly recommended, especially during the height of the camping season (October - May). Please check our campground fees page for current rates.

Markham Park also provides an area set aside for youth primitive camping for nonprofit groups. Reservations and arrangements must be made through the park office by calling 954-389-2000 or by e-mail to MarkhamPark@broward.org.

Airfield
|
The Markham Park airfield offers more than 50 acres of ground space for takeoff and landing of remote-control model planes and helicopters. With the recently extended and renovated runway, this airfield is one of the finest in the country! Numerous events are hosted throughout the year by the various clubs and organizations affiliated with the park. An Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and a Markham Park flying card are required to fly at the field.

Pool

This recently resurfaced heated pool offers numerous opportunities for water recreation and education including water aerobics, swimming lessons, and open swim!

The pool is open during the aquatic season (March - October), weather permitting. Entry fee is $3.50 per person, with children under 12 months free. The pool is available for parties and private rental after normal hours.

Personal Watercraft Lake
|
This 26-acre lake is open seasonally on weekends and holidays from mid-March through the end of October for motorized personal watercraft. A launching fee is required, with session times set as follows: 8:30-11:30 a.m.; noon-3 p.m.; and 3:30-6:30 p.m.

Boat Rentals
 |
Markham Park has kayaks, canoes, and paddleboats available for rent during the designated aquatic season (May-September). Rentals are available at the pool office beginning at 10 a.m. Rental fees are $7 per hour, $13 for four hours. A security deposit is also required.

Tennis Courts/Racquetball Courts
|
Three hard-surfaced, unlighted tennis courts are available at no charge during the day. Courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The park also features four three-wall racquetball courts available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Target Range
 |
The Markham Park Target Range comprises three unique shooting venues including Skeet and Trap, Pistol/Rifle Range, and a Sporting Clays course.
The Skeet and Trap section of the range consists of five lighted combination skeet and trap fields, along with a five stand that is used as an abbreviated sporting clays practice area.

Mountain Bike Trails
|
With nearly 11 miles of trails, the Markham Park Mountain Bike Trails offer bicycle enthusiasts a challenging experience. Trails are available for the novice, intermediate, and the expert/pro rider. Helmets are required, and riders under the age of 17 must have written consent from parent or legal guardian to ride. Only mountain bikes are permitted on the trails. Non-specific mountain bikes, bike trailers, and child seats are not allowed on the trails. Additionally, pets, pedestrians, walkers, hikers, runners, horses, motorized bikes, and ATVs are also prohibited on the trails.

Boat Ramps
 |
There are two boat ramps accessible through Markham Park. The south boat ramps offer access to the New River Canal, which runs parallel to State Road 84, while the west boat ramps connect to the L35A canal adjacent to the Everglades.

Barkham at Markham
|
Barkham at Markham is a 3.5-acre dog park offering separate areas for small and large dogs to run free and play on various pet apparatus in the park. There are three pavilions located in the dog park with plenty of benches for dog owners to sit and converse with other dog owners.
The small dog park is designed for dogs up to 25 pounds, while the large dog park is designated for all others. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. For a complete set of dog park rules and regulations, please visit our Barkham at Markham page.
Barkham at Markham is closed each Tuesday morning until 10 for maintenance. There are also several other day-long closings throughout the year as required for more in-depth maintenance. These closing dates will be posted at the dog park at least one week in advance.

Fox Observatory
 |
The Fox astronomical observatory at Markham Park, which has been operational since the mid-1970s, offers the best view of the darkest skies of any regularly publicly accessible observatory in South Florida. The observatory is open to the public every Saturday evening from sunset until midnight. Assistance with personal telescopes is also available.

Playground

The Markham playground offers a variety of play options for children ages 5 to 12. The playground is located between shelters 2 and 3.

Model Boat Area
|
The Broward Model Boat Club (BMBC) meets Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting, at the open water site located northwest of the dog park.

Throughout the year, several North American Model Boat Association-sanctioned events are held in conjunction with the BMBC at the park.
