Environmental Camp Field Trips

Nature areas in South Florida are sacred places our residents love to share with their visitors. Now is the time to book your field trip or summer camp activity. The following facilities are pleased to offer programs for your recreational needs.

General Information

Reservations: Dates fill up quickly so schedule trips well in advance of your visit. Please telephone immediately to cancel a field trip. This will enable us to offer a field trip to another group on our waiting list.

Group size: There is a minimum of 25 (except at Anne Kolb Nature Center and Deerfield Island) and a maximum of 60 at most sites (except Anne Kolb Nature Center – max. 120 and Deerfield Island – max. 30 campers). We require that there be at least one adult for every 10 campers ages 6 and older. For children 5 and younger, one adult for every four campers is required.

Tour length and fee: Most sites offer programs for a fee of $3 per instructional hour per student. Some programs may have an increased fee for materials or additional activities.

Dress: Please have campers dressed appropriately: closed-toe shoes and play clothes.

Picnics: Some sites have picnic tables or shelters available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are fees to reserve shelters. Be sure to check with the site contact for additional information.

Specialized Programming: If your group has any special needs or wishes to cover specific topics, please inform the site coordinator at the time of your reservation. If you would like to be added to our e-mail list for nature news and events, please send an e-mail to: NatureNews@broward.org.

Our service commitment to Scouts:

The Broward County Parks and Recreation Division currently operates a total of approximately 6,400 acres, plus 710 acres of natural areas. Our nature centers provide access to several different habitats including freshwater wetlands and mangrove forests. Some of our sites provide access to recreational activities such as playgrounds, picnic facilities, camping, canoeing, and sports programs. Our badge programs are designed by park naturalists, some of whom were active scouts and leaders. Our goal is to make learning enjoyable.

Service Projects:
We have service projects available for all ages and group sizes: exotic removal, waterway cleanup, air potato roundup, tree planting, etc.

Complete your troop, pack, or individual conservation projects with us. Scouts can complete their Star, Life, and Eagle Scout projects. Silver and Gold Award projects are also available. Our professional staff will help you coordinate projects to fit your needs. Check out our calendar of scouting events.
