Oh Behave Dog Training
Training Hounds with Music Sounds will be offered by
Oh Behave Dog Training. Please check the Oh Behave website for times. Imagine teaching your dog basic commands sit, down, come, stay, and heel to the beat of your favorite tunes from the 80’s and theme songs from your favorite movies and TV shows. We will address problem behaviors like jumping up, leash pulling, and play biting. Our positive, reward based program is a great bonding experience for you and your dog in the lovely shady setting at Plantation Heritage Park. Join us on Saturday mornings for more fun than humans should be allowed! Class times, required registration forms, and more information are available at Oh Behave.
Oh Behave Group Lessons (PDF–225 KB) cost $110 per dog and there must be at least one adult handler per dog. The $110 fee does not include the park entrance fee of $1.50 per person per lesson. The dog student must be at least 5 months of age and have a current Broward County Rabies tag. No aggressive dogs please.
What to bring on the first day of class: the dog student, a nylon buckle collar, a six foot leash (no retractable leashes), and a bag of favorite treats cut or broken into small pieces. We will meet in the parking lot by the park management office. Registration is required. Registration form (PDF -80KB).

Back to TopWouldn’t it be great to have a well-mannered dog you can take anywhere?
Learn the basic doggie manners and obedience commands your dog needs to be a welcomed companion. He will learn to be calm and focused around people and other dogs. You will learn how to apply the basics, such as sit, down, stay, leave it, and wait to replace unwanted behavior with desirable behavior.
Does your dog drag you down the street and not come when you call him?
Basic training class teaches him to walk nicely on a leash and come quickly to you when called. (The goal is to come and sit in three seconds by graduation).
Positive training methods focus on what your dog is doing right. Your dog is taught and rewarded for desirable behavior, increasing his likelihood to repeat it. Positive training is not punishment-based. No choke chains, prong collars, shock collars or leash corrections are ever used. The result is a dog who obeys with enthusiasm, not fear.
PlayTrain offers the following classes at Markham Park:
Basic Positive Training: Saturdays 9 a.m.
The cost for the six-week class is $150. Dogs should be 5 months and older, handlers 16 and older. Proof of vaccination is required. Call 954-349-5969 to pre-register.
Canine Good Citizen: Saturdays 10 a.m.
The ten items necessary to pass the Canine Good Citizen test will be taught, and the test administered on the last class. See www.akc.org for more information on the test. The cost for the six-week class is $150. Call 954-349-5969 to pre-register.
Rally Obedience: Saturdays 8 a.m.
Rally is a team sport that focuses on fun and positive interaction between dog and handler. You and your dog navigate a numbered course performing obedience exercises. A great way to bond with your dog! The cost for the six-week class is $95. (This is an advanced class- basic and CGC are recommended first) Call

Debbie Bates has participated in the world of dog training since childhood, showing and training in Junior Showmanship at the age of 8 years. Having worked with several thousand dogs since 1980, she is comfortable with all breeds. Her goal in teaching the last few lessons of every beginner class is to get both dogs and handlers ready for the advanced classes.
Gretchen Brown has been teaching our Conformation handling class since 1990 and handles professionally. She was the training director for the Ft. Lauderdale Dog Club and is also a member of the American Belgian Tervuren Club and the Gold Coast United Dog Club. She believes dogs of all breeds benefit from early socialization and training and also welcomes young mixed breed puppies into her class.
Linda Day conducts the Advanced Obedience classes. She trained her first dog at the age of 10 under a trainer who trained dogs for the Army. She held many positions for more than 20 years with the Ft. Lauderdale Dog Club and the German Shepherd Dog Club of Ft. Lauderdale. Linda has a vast knowledge of the differences in breed temperaments. She is a firm believer that a pet is a till-death-do-we-part endeavor and will work tirelessly to make the owner and dog a happy-with-each-other team.
Marge Miller has been teaching group classes since 1970 with both the Ft. Lauderdale Dog Club and the German Shepherd Dog Club of Ft. Lauderdale. At the same time she was conducting private in-home training as President of Command Dog Training, Inc. Marge's approach in teaching the first half of every Beginner Obedience class is based on communicating a natural method of training and behavior modification, with methods that have been used for generations.
