Plantation Heritage Park
 This 88.5-acre park was formerly a University of Florida agricultural experimentation farm. Plantation Heritage maintains that horticultural theme with tropical flowering trees and palms throughout the park, along with many displays of landscape plants. The Broward County Audubon Society's Anne Kolb Memorial Trail winds through re-created representative plant communities. A rare fruit area is maintained by park staff and the Rare Fruit and Vegetable Council.
The park, opened in 1984, offers many picnic areas, playgrounds, nature trails,and a fitness trail. Many runners, walkers, and bicyclists avail themselves of the park's sidewalks and roadways for their daily workouts.
 Next to the park office, you will find the 2,000-square-foot Fountain Room (sorry, currently under renovation construction and not available). This meeting room has large windows to offer patrons a fabulous view of the lake. This room can be reserved for meetings, parties, banquets, receptions, reunions, or any activity. There are also several picnic shelters throughout the park that can be reserved for that special pic nic or party.
Besides the Fountain Room and picnic shelters, there is a gazebo strategically placed near the duck pond that makes a wonderful location for the exchange of vows. The gazebo must be reserved in advance if you plan to say "I do" there.
If fishing is your game, feel free to bring your gear to the park, and make sure you have your freshwater fishing license if you are over age 16. There are also paddleboats for rent (great leg exercise for those looking for an alternative to walking/jogging).

A little history... In 1931, Frederick C. Peters, the son of a successful Missouri shoe manufacturer, moved to South Florida and bought a 90-acre piece of landin what is now the City of Plantation. The park site was later leased from the Peters family by the state, which established the University of Florida USDA Plantation Experiment Station for conducting research on the spread of the citrus blackfly. The Broward County Commission and the City of Plantation acquired the park land in 1977 through a grant friom the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund. At the city's request, the park, initially known as the Peters Tract, was renamed Plantation Heritage.
