Frequently Asked Questions
1. Q: How will I know which dock to go to when I get to the Port?
A: Port Everglades has directional signs displaying ship names and terminal numbers. Simply refer to one of these signs or ask a security officer. In addition, your ship's name will appear on your cruise tickets. For more information, see Terminals.
2. Q: Do I need a passport to take a cruise?
A: That depends on your destination and nationality. If you are a United States citizen and will be disembarking in another country, you will need a passport or in some cases a birth certificate with a photo ID is alright. It's best to check with your cruise line. Citizens of other countries will need to show valid passports to board their vessels. To enter the Port Everglades area, you will be required to show a valid photo ID such as a current driver's license and passport (expired passports are not accepted). For information about obtaining a U.S. passport, visit http://travel.state.gov/
3. Q: How early should I arrive for my cruise?
A: Plan to arrive at least two hours before your scheduled departure time, but not before 11 a.m., as most cruise lines do not begin processing passengers until after that time.
4. Q: Can I leave my car at the Port while I take a cruise?
A: Yes. You may park your car in either of the two Port Everglades parking garages. The Northport Parking Garage services terminals 1, 2, 4 and the Broward County Convention Center. The Midport Parking Garage services terminals 18, 19, 21, 22/24, 25, 26, 27 and 29. The fee is $15 per day. No busses, campers, trucks, trailers or recreational vehicles permitted in the garages. Parking for oversized vehicles is available at privately owned remote lots. For more information, see Parking.
5. Q: How can I get from the airport to the Port?
A: Although Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is less than 2 miles away, the thoroughfare is not suitable for walking. If your cruise was part of a tour package, your transportation to Port Everglades may be included. Check with your travel agent or your travel documents for details. Otherwise, a taxi from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is approximately $10. For other options, see Transportation. Travel time from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Port Everglades is less than 10 minutes, depending on traffic. However, we suggest a minimum of at least 45 minutes between your flight arrival time and check-in time at the cruise line's desk to allow for baggage claim and security clearance.
6. Q: How do I book a cruise?
A: To book a cruise, contact one of the cruise lines or a travel agent directly. Check the following link for more information: www.broward.org/cruise planning. |
