What Are the Regulated Substances?
The Wellfield and Environmental Services Team protects the public drinking water supplies from hazardous chemicals called regulated substances. A list of the regulated substances is found in Appendix A of Article XIII of the Natural Resource Protection Code (Chapter 27). Facilities that store, use, handle or produce regulated substances in the wellfield zones are required to obtain a Hazardous Material Wellfield License and they are routinely inspected. The license requires recordkeeping, notifications, training, monitoring and a spill contingency plan.
