Program Development and Research

The Human Services Department TRAIN Institute

The Human Services Department TRAIN (Technical Resources to Advance and Improve NPO's) Institute, coordinated by the Program Development Research and Evaluation Division, offers workshops and training events at no cost for community human services organizations. Presenters include Broward County employees, representatives from other government and non-government organizations and community volunteers.

How are training topics identified?

Feedback gained from periodic training needs surveys distributed to community-based human services organizations allows the Institute to develop and adapt its offerings to respond to the changing needs and demands of the human services environment.

How are workshops developed?

Workshops are developed using research-based best practices in service delivery and management, strategic planning, program and infrastructure development, funding research, program evaluation, planning, collaboration, and non-profit governance. In addition, domestic violence issues, case management, stress management, documentation standards, office practices and computer literacy courses are provided.

Workshop format

Workshops provide information in an interactive, structured format, and offer beginning to advanced levels. Institute workshops also assist human services agencies in achieving Standards for Excellence Certification, a Broward County Human Services Department program recognizing agency excellence. Certification Program.

Who may attend?

Representatives from community-based and governmental agencies providing human services in Broward County are typical course participants. In addition, the Institute coordinates specialized workshops for the Human Service Department and its contracted service providers.
