Waste and Recycling Services (WRS) coordinates the resource recovery system, a three-part waste management approach used to effectively reduce and safely manage waste disposal in Broward County for participating municipalities. WRS’ Recycling and Contract Administration Division handles recycling, garbage collection and lot clearing services for unincorporated areas, disposal of household hazardous wastes, operation of the County's three trash transfer stations, tire recycling and school, government and business recycling initiatives, and administration of the contract for the materials recovery facility. The Solid Waste Operations Division oversees the operations and the County Landfill, coordinates contacts with operators of the two waste-to-energy plants in the County, and coordinates efforts for wetlands mitigation.
