Fictitious Names
A. Searching for a fictitious name:
Note: The Search Section of County Records Division is not sufficiently staffed to take search requests over the telephone. Search requests must be in writing. Please follow the instructions outlined below.
(1) You may search our records for fictitious names recorded prior to January 1, 1991. This information is available in our Search Section in Room 119 of the Broward County Governmental Center at 115 S. Andrews Ave, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 33301. You can check our computerized index for information about Fictitious Names recorded from 1978 - 1990. (The County Records Division has not recorded fictitious names since January 1, 1991.)
OR
You may make a written request. The fee is $1.50 per name per year. Make the check payable to the Board of County Commissioners. Prominently mark your envelope to the attention of "Search Section, Room 119" at the Ft. Lauderdale address stated above to expedite handling.
(2) For fictitious names recorded on or after January 1, 1991, contact the Department of State, Division of Corporations, P.O. Box 6327, Tallahassee, Florida 32314.
B. Filing for a fictitious name:
This office does not provide assistance for completion or process applications for fictitious names. However, a Registration Packet, which accompanies the Application Form contains instructions for completion of the application.Applications and Fictitious Name Registration Packets may be picked up at the Governmental Center Information Desk.Completed paperwork must be mailed to the Department of State in Tallahassee, and requests for assistance should also be directed to that agency.
