4/50 Rule

Curious about this 4/50 Rule you keep hearing about? The 4/50 Rule is one of the most important solid waste collection guidelines. The 4/50 Rule states:

  • Yard waste, such as tree trimmings, branches, palm fronds, horticultural materials, lumber, metal poles, etc. must be cut and bundled.
  • Bundles must be less than 4 feet in any direction and 50 pounds in weight.
  • Tree trunks, logs and large limbs must be less than 4 feet in length and weigh less than 50 pounds.

This rule applies to items placed out for regular garbage and bulky waste collections.

The main reason yard waste is not collected by the hauler is because the 4/50 Rule was not followed. Help keep your neighborhood looking good - follow the 4/50 Rule.

Why do I have to cut and bundle my branches?

The 4/50 Rule is in place to help keep your solid waste collection costs low and your neighborhood clean. If residents were able to place untied items at the curb, the hauler would have to use special equipment to collect the items and this would result in collections taking longer. All of that adds up to increased costs to you.
