About Stacy
Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter was elected to the Broward County Commission in November of 2006. The following year, she was selected by the Board to serve as Vice-Mayor and in 2008 she was chosen to serve as Mayor.
She brings unique perspective and experience to the Commission. In 1996, Stacy was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, serving the residents of District 96. She was forced to leave office in November 2004 due to mandated term limits. In August 2007, Stacy joined the successful Presidential campaign of President-Elect Barack Obama. As a hard working campaigner and successful fundraiser she earned President-Elect Obama’s trust and respect and to this day remains close to the First Family. Her years serving as a State Representative, combined with her current service on the Broward Commission and her relationship with the new administration in the White House can only serve to benefit Broward County. Broward County Commissioners are elected from nine single-member districts. Stacy serves as the district commissioner
for County District 3.
Stacy was born in Washington D.C. in 1960, and moved to Broward County in 1974. A graduate of Piper High School in Sunrise, Stacy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and her Juris Doctor degree from Nova Southeastern College of Law.
Stacy was a community activist for years with the National Council of Jewish Women and other organizations prior to her election to State office. In 2001, she was elected Chair of the Broward County Legislative Delegation by her colleagues. Stacy chaired Broward County’s Management and Efficiency Study Committee from June 2004 to June 2006. As Vice-Mayor last year, she became a member of the Broward County Planning Council and Fire Rescue Council as well as the official liaison between city and county governments.
As a member of the Florida Association of Counties, she serves on the Board of Directors as well as co-chair of the FAC Growth, Environmental Planning & Agriculture Committee. She is additionally a member of the National Association of Counties Transportation Steering Committee.
Stacy can also be heard on WFTL 850 AM every Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. to noon where she discusses local, state, and national politics on her live call-in show, The Ritter Report.
Although Stacy has been recognized for her service by numerous groups and organizations, she is most proud of being inducted to the Broward County Women’s Hall of Fame and being named as the Sierra Club Legislator of the Year; Woman of the Year by the American Jewish Congress and a First Lady of Broward. In 2005, she co-chaired the Broward County Mayor’s Ball benefiting the Transplant House.
