Commissioner Stacy Ritter - District 3

Welcome Friends and Neighbors:

I ’m Stacy Ritter, your Broward County Commissioner. I represent the residents of District 3, which includes portions of Coral Springs, Tamarac, Sunrise, and Parkland. In November of 2007, I was selected by my peers to serve as Vice Mayor of Broward County.

There are many challenges that face Broward County — the second largest county in the State. Among our challenges are our transportation systems including mass transit, the crisis in affordable housing, emergency preparedness, particularly during hurricane season, and managing the growth of our county. That’s why we must look for efficiencies in the way we do business. In addition, county government must examine all possible ways to address our water needs and foster economic development. As Broward County grows, we must be sure that our growth is innovative and environmentally friendly.

Our current economic climate has many of us rethinking our vacation plans. With high gas prices, traveling far off for many of us isn’t the possibility it once was. This is why I suggest many of us consider packing our bags and enjoying a Summer of Discovery right here in Broward County. We are fortunate to live in a county that offers us many activities to fill our recreation and leisure time with family and friends. From our 23 miles of beautiful beaches certified to be among America’s cleanest, to 300 + miles of navigable inland waters, to shopping at malls like Sawgrass Mills or even along Las Olas Boulevard, to picnicking or biking in our parks, to airboat rides in the Everglades, the possibilities of discovery and fun are endless.

The issue of property taxes has been a hot topic of discussion, particularly within the context of our recent January ballot question in which the voters approved the property tax amendment to the Florida Constitution. The voice of the people has been heard and we at the county commission are preparing for an approximate $87 million reduction in our budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

I look forward to continuing our efforts to meet with the residents of District 3 and of Broward County, providing you with updates and seeking your input on the issues facing Broward County.

My office at the Broward County Governmental Center is located at 115 South Andrews Avenue, Room 413, in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Our district office is located in the Family Success Center at 10077 NW 29th Street in Coral Springs.
