Broward County 3rd Avenue Bridge Gets New Paint!

Southeast 3rd Avenue Bridge Gets New Paint and a New Look!

Broward County Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division is supervising the repainting of the Southeast 3rd Avenue Drawbridge. The work began on March 31, 2014 and is on track to complete on October 1, 2014.

As the total surface area for the concrete portion of the bridge is approximately 70,000 square feet and the metal portions are about 30,000 square feet, the project will take approximately 1,400 gallons of paint. The concrete portions were pressure cleaned and coated using sprayers and rollers, with a scissor lift and a boom lift to reach the high areas. The metal portion will require a barge with the boom lift on it to reach all the areas underneath the bridge decking. The metal areas will be pressure cleaned, all rusted areas removed manually before applying the coating.

The new color, Prairie Green, was chosen by the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Voter Election Trucks Unload Voting Machines

Highway and Bridge Maintenance Employees Collect Voting Machines in Recent General Election

Long after Broward County's voters cast their ballots on November 4, 2014, Highway and Bridge Maintenance (HBMD) worked into the night collecting voting machines delivering them safely to Supervisor of Elections staff. Both HBMD and Traffic Engineering employees volunteered to work after hours driving 37 trucks to 577 precincts and collecting all voting machines so that they could be returned to storage.

Many thanks to all employees involved in this effort!

Kudos to Broward County Highway and Bridge Maintenance Asphalt Crew

Broward County Highway and Bridge Maintenance Asphalt Crew Provide SunSational Service

The Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division's Asphalt Crew recently responded promptly to a citizen's report of a street deficiency in front of his community. His comments:

Please be advised, I made a SINGLE phone call to the City Of Coral Springs and was transfer to the Broward County Highway and Bridge Division. Within two days I received a phone call from Mr. Carter Williams and schedule to take care of my request. Two weeks after that call, Mr. Williams and his Asphalt Crew appeared in from of my community in Atlantic Blvd and repaired a large depression.

Years went by and I was living with the rumbling of the large trucks going over the dip, I regret not calling sooner.

I want to inform all responsible parties, that thanks to Mr. Carter William and his Asphalt Crew; I’m glad to live in the best County in the WORLD. The quick response and herculean effort to handle this situation made me post it on Facebook and show my friends how lucky I am.

Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division employees are proud of our service to Broward County residents and making the County a safer and more beautiful place to live.
