Mission Statement: Working together to provide for the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicular traffic within the County.

The Division's main customer base is the public at large and the Broward County business community (e.g. developers, consultants and contractors).

The Division's Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with emergency callout 24 hours a day.

Organization: In order to accomplish its stated mission, the Traffic Engineering Division is organized into five sections. These are Management and Administration, Signal Systems, Signal Construction and Maintenance, Signs and Markings, Traffic Studies. We also maintain signs and signals on a 24/7 basis.

Broward County provides traffic engineering services to the Municipal Service Districts (formerly Unincorporated Areas) as well as 28 of the 31 municipalities. Our services to the municipalities are provided through Traffic Engineering Agreements.

The Signal Systems Section operates and maintains a countywide computer controlled traffic signal system to protect motorists and pedestrians, reduce motorist travel time and aid in the efficiency of roadways. The section is responsible for the design of new signals and the evaluation of signal timing and phasing.

The Signal Maintenance Section is responsible for the maintenance of traffic signal systems, and the maintenance of roadway lighting on selected roadways.

The Signs and Markings Section is responsible for the fabrication, installation and maintenance of signs and pavement markings.

The Traffic Studies Section conducts traffic studies and investigations to improve safety and traffic circulation for the motoring public. Various types of traffic data are collected and analyzed in the performance of these studies and are available to the public. These include turning movement counts, traffic volume counts, delay studies, speed studies and crash studies analyses.
