Traffic Engineering Division
Traffic Signal Operations Section 

The Traffic Signal Operations Superintendent is responsible for all areas of traffic signal operations and street lights. Additionally, two Supervisors, one for north area operations and one for south area operations are responsible for all traffic signal functions in their respective areas and they report directly to the Operations Superintendent.

Operations Organizational Structure:

Construction Crew:

Location: 2300 West Commercial Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Responsibilities:

  1. Build new intersections
  2. Rebuild old intersections
  3. Repair damaged intersections
  4. Install systems cabinets, cable & conduit
  5. Build school flashers
  6. Perform trenching and excavating for signal projects
  7. Complete engineering work orders for miscellaneous traffic control changes
  8. Perform emergency call-out duties, as needed.

North and South Crews Maintenance Sections:

Responsible for the geographical area from the Palm Beach County Line to Sunrise Boulevard

Responsibilities:

  1. Intersection Trouble Calls
  2. Intersection Maintenance
  3. Repair Street Lights
  4. Install New Overhead Wiring and Signalization
  5. Install New Signal Cabinets
  6. Replace worn out or damaged Signal Cabinets
  7. Perform Inspections of Contractor built intersections and/or school flasher installations
  8. Complete Engineering work orders that modify cabinet and overhead functions. These work orders may originate from Broward County's Engineering Division and/or from the Florida Department of Transportation District Four.
  9. Install various signal control equipment e.g.: fire pre-emption.

Electronic Repair Shop:

Responsibilities:

  1. Repair microprocessor controllers
  2. Repair fail safe monitors
  3. Repair relays
  4. Repair load switches
  5. Repair time clocks
  6. Repair flashers
  7. Repair different types of switches
  8. Repair detection units
  9. Repair remote communication units, and related signal equipment
  10. Fabricate traffic control cabinets for new intersection installations
  11. Wire traffic control cabinets as replacements for damaged or obsolete traffic cabinets
  12. Test new traffic control equipment prior to it being installed on a public roadway
  13. Complete Engineering work orders as required

Vehicle Detection Repair Crew:

Responsibilities:

  1. Install vehicle detection devices (vehicle detection loops) in the roadbed
  2. Repair damaged loops in roadbed
