Traffic Counts
ROADWAY TRAFFIC COUNT DATA
The Broward County Transportation Planning Division maintains an urban traffic count program, to provide base data for travel needs assessment, roadway Level of Service analysis, various transportation-related data bases updates, air quality planning, and other transportation systems planning tasks. Two types of traffic count data are available: The Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) count data and the turning movement count (TMC) data for signalized intersections.
The Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) Count Data
AADT report and maps are prepared each year to provide the public with information about traffic volumes on major roadways in Broward County. The report and maps provide locations of the traffic count stations and the traffic count data.
Prior to the start of a new calendar year, the Broward County Transportation Planning Division staff reviews the existing traffic count locations for consistency with the highway network. Every attempt is made to count the same locations each year. Additional stations are added as new roadways are constructed. A listing of the County station locations is sent to the Broward County Traffic Engineering Division (BCTED) for data collection.
In addition to the data collected by BCTED, the report and map also provide data available from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT.) FDOT maintains a list of count stations primarily on State roads.

The traffic count maps and reports are in PDF format. The historical AADT data file is in Excel spreadsheet format. The GIS data are provided in ArcView shape file format along with an html file that contains the GIS data documentation.

The Turning Movement Count (TMC) Data
TMC data are collected at selected signalized intersections usually during AM, Midday, and PM peak hours. Broward County Transportation Planning Division maintains an inventory of signalized intersections in Broward County using GIS. The TMC data are collected periodically by the Broward County Traffic Engineering Division.
Click at the links below to access the TMC data, a map showing the signalized intersection locations, or the GIS data. TMC data are provided in dBASE format, the map is in PDF format, and the GIS data are provided as a zipped file containing ArcView shape files and metadata in html format. The TMC data are grouped by the year they were collected. The first four digit of each TMC file name (xxxx_yy.dbf) refer to the intersection ID while the last two digits refer to the year. To determine the actual day of the month and the location description of each count, you should read first the tmcxxx.dbf (xxxx represents the year) file provided in each year group.
