What We Do

The Administration Section serves as contract administrator for the preparation of land development regulations to implement the Community-wide Urban Design Guidebook; coordinates the establishment of the Permit Center at the Government Center West; and manages the Redevelopment Capital Program to support local redevelopment efforts.

The Building Code Services Division administers and enforces applicable regulations related to building and zoning code inspections and plan review in the Unincorporated Area; performs inspections and conducts follow-up enforcement activity to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code; coordinates Code Enforcement activities in unincorporated areas; manages the Central Examining Board which is responsible for investigating complaints about unlicensed contractors; provides plan review and inspection services to municipalities and the Broward County School Board; and oversees the permitting and inspecting of elevators countywide.

The Development Management Division coordinates and monitors the regulation of development projects throughout Broward County; administers the Broward County Land Development Code, including the County’s platting ordinance, concurrency management provisions and impact fee provisions; ensures that proposed projects are consistent with the County’s Natural Resource Protection Code and issues the County’s final approval of most project plans prior to submission to cities for building permits. 

The Housing and Community Development Division administers and manages the housing programs of the Housing Finance Authority, Community   Development Block Grant (CDBG), State Housing Initiative Partnerships (SHIP), Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) programs, and other housing-related programs.

The Metropolitan Planning Organization Division provides staff services for the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO); provides long and short-range highway and transit planning for state and federal aid programs, transportation improvements, and projects programming and prepares plans and programs, including traffic and transit studies for the County in support of its capital plan and improvement efforts for transportation disadvantaged services.

The Planning Services Division manages the comprehensive planning program, annexation program, and rezoning petition process; serves as a repository for demographic and economic data; administers the Governmental Center Downtown Campus (GCDC) project; manages the Geographic Information System (GIS) and provides GIS services to County agencies; promotes brownsfields revitalization and coordinates the development of the Single Family Home Construction  and Transit/Housing Oriented Redevelopment programs.
