- The Resource Recovery System is responsible for the disposal of ash
generated.
- The RRS has been meeting its requirement for ash disposal with its Ash
Monofill, constructed in 1991.

- Leachate is temporarily stored for use at the Facility but when storage
exceeds needs, it must be discharged to the City of Hollywood’s
wastewater treatment system.

continue operating after the agreement expires in August 2011.
- The Wheelabrator South Broward Waste-to-Energy Facility will continue to
need ash disposal after the agreement.
- The Ash Monofill is in close proximity to the Wheelabrator South Broward
Waste-to-Energy Facility.

- If expansion is chosen, there will be an estimated cost of $10.5M -
$11.5M for construction of the expansion.
- If expansion is not chosen, there will be an estimated cost of $17.5M
for closure and long-term maintenance for the existing 34.3 acres of the
Ash Monofill.
- In addition, there will be a Disposal/Transportation fee of
approximately $9.3M - $9.4M per year.

planning, design, permitting, and construction of the Ash Monofill
Expansion.
