What is Air Quality Awareness Month?

Each May, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, state and local air quality programs as well as local partners devote resources toward Air Quality Awareness Month public outreach activities. These focus on air quality issues and how we can work together to keep our air clean.

Our Part in Air Quality

We all have an effect on the air we breathe by making choices about our daily activities; from driving our cars, to mowing our lawns, to our use of electricity. Transportation from passenger vehicles is the main source of air pollution in Broward County.

As residents, we have the responsibility to protect and preserve our air quality throughout the entire year, not just during the month of May.

For example, we can all make more sustainable transportation choices for clean air, learn about ozone and what can be done to prevent its formation, and stay up to date with the Fire and Smoke Map (especially during hotter months).

Small things like turning out your lights as well as properly and regularly maintaining your vehicle can make a big difference in preserving and protecting the quality of our air!

These actions also help reduce the impacts of climate change.
