Edgewood Passive Park Project

(Note: This project was completed ahead of schedule on October 21, 2025)

Work on the Edgewood Passive Park Stormwater Improvements Project by the Broward County Aviation Department is expected to start in mid-June for completion in late 2025.

WHAT:

The Edgewood Passive Park Stormwater Improvements Project, part of a series of interconnected infrastructural upgrade initiatives at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), is designed to enhance the functionality and sustainability of FLL’s on-site and surrounding managed stormwater systems. Managed by the Broward County Aviation Department, the scope of work at the Edgewood Passive Park includes replacing existing drainage and piping infrastructure, cleaning existing pipes, and restoring disturbed pavement and landscape areas.

WHY:

While only approximately 2.5% of the airport’s total outfall (drainage discharge) flows into the approved stormwater system within the park, restoring the drainage infrastructure in Edgewood Passive Park will help to improve stormwater conveyance, protect the environment, and improve maintenance accessibility and efficiency.

WHERE:

The project is located on Broward County property at Edgewood Passive Park at 3371 SW 15th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, just northwest of the airport.

WHEN:

Construction for this estimated $850,000 project is anticipated to begin in summer 2025, and is expected to take approximately six months to complete, not including holidays and inclement weather.

COMMUNITY IMPACTS:

During construction, a portion of the Edgewood Passive Park trail and walking path will be temporarily closed to ensure public safety. However, the majority of the trail, including most exercise equipment and the remaining walking paths, will be open and accessible to users throughout the project.
