Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO)
The Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL) hosts approximately 35.9 million passengers annually and employs more than 18,000 employees. The Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD) contracts with the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) to provide law enforcement services at the airport. The International Airport District’s primary mission is to provide a safe, secure, efficient, and pleasurable experience for the traveling public and tenants at the airport. Additional areas of responsibility include liaison between airport tenants and the BCAD, as well as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
BSO assists with aircraft and other incidents; preventing and investigating criminal activity; providing visible patrols in terminal buildings, traffic, and parking enforcement; and assisting motorists and travelers. The BSO deploys two specialized units within the airport; the Explosive Detection Canine Unit (EOD) and the Incident Containment Team (ICT). The EOD Canine Unit responds to all bomb threats at the airport and screens commercial cargo. The ICT unit mitigates and contains critical incidents or disasters. The district works closely with airport partners, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on compliance and investigative matters.
