Description

New York based artist Patricia Leighton developed a design for a sculptural work that emphasizes the relationship between water and land. This environmental sculptural installation is comprised of seven large free-standing units of fossilized oolithic limestone, indigenous to South Florida, each measuring 15' high by 7' wide and deep, lining along the water edge of a nearby pond. With their natural white coloration in the limestone, Seven Runes connotes a sense of mystery.

Artist Statement

"The environmental site specific sculpture has been developed to emphasize the relationship between the lake and the land. A number of factors have been considered. The first being the use of indigenous Florida plants as well as the reflective and connotative quality of the lake. The sculpture has been designed to relate to the architecture and the surrounding environment. Consideration has been given to the participatory relationship of the viewer to the work and to the surrounding landscape, scale and textural elements."
