NACIO AWARDS 2022

​​The National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO), an affiliate of the National Association of Counties (NACo) with members from more than 3,000 counties, parishes and boroughs across the United States, hosts its annual Awards of Excellence to recognize excellence in public information and community outreach efforts by local governments in a variety of categories including: Annual Reports, Audiovisual Productions, Brochures, Electronic Communications, Graphic Design, Photography, Publications, Special Projects and Writing.

Once again, Broward County has topped the nation when it comes to the quality of its public information and public education outreach campaigns with 19 NACIO Awards of Excellence in the 2022 competition - more than any other county in the nation. Here are the winners in each category:

Six Superior Awards

  • Public Art M​ap @ FLL available to passengers at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood ​International Airport, mapping the location of select public art displays. (Brochures: One Page Brochure) - Cultural Division

  • Broward.org/Library, a 24/7 virtual “branch” providing a complete range of online library services, programs and resources to complement the library’s brick-and-mortar buildings. (Electronic Communications: Website) - Libraries Division 

  • 2021 “Tails & Tales" Summer Magazine promotes summer learning programs for students showcasing community services such as story times, take-and-make crafts available during the pandemic, free meal programs and health and wellness classes. (Publications: External Magazine) – Libraries Division

  • Character Education e-newsletter geared for families, students and teachers about County programs and events related to clean air and the environment. (Electronic Communications: Email Newsletter) - Natural Resources Division

  • “Please PAW-tect Us Too" hurricane preparation guide specific for families with pets containing information regarding pet-friendly shelters and emergency “go-kit” suggestions for pets. (Brochures: Multi-Page Booklet) - Office of Public Communications

  • @ReadyBroward Twitter account provided up-to-the-minute COVID-19 test kit distribution. (Electronic Communications: Twitter) – Office of Public Communications

Seven Excellence Awards

  • A Guide for Owners of Elevating Devices brochure about County requirements regarding elevator permitting, inspection and safety. Following the distribution of the brochure, the County saw a decrease in inquiries from elevator owners. (Brochures: One-Page Brochure) – Building Code Division

  • Landscaping on the Edge is a user-friendly reference guide featuring best practices for planting and information about native plants, emergent plants and agency programs. (Brochures: Multiple Page Booklet) – Natural Resources Division

  • Urban Oasis Herman and Dorothy Shooster Nature Preserve video series highlighted the County’s commitment to preserving natural areas and educational programs designed to encourage residents to embrace the Broward County's native lands. (Audio Visual Production: Video Series) - Parks & Recreation Division

  • Get Vaccinated PSAs video series encouraged the community to get vaccinated when Broward residents were reluctant to do so. (Audio Visual Production: One-Time Video) - Office of Public Communications

  • Broward County FLLibrary, a satellite library in the airport with custom graphic design​ creating a sense of serenity in the busy airport and guiding guests to special QR codes on the wall that accessed the library’s streaming video and audio collections.

  • Stay Connected e-newsletter sent to the community during the initial stages of the pandemic promoting free online library resources.

  • Aviation Department Office Move Newsletters distributed to employees about the relocation of their offices in 2020, from several off-site complexes into new consolidated workspaces in Terminal 4. (Publications: Internal Publications) - Broward County Aviation
     

Six Meritorious Awards​

  • Building Code Badge captures the Division’s new identity and location. Building Code Division provides regional elevator permitting, enforcement and compliance, contractor licensing and enforcement and permitting. (Graphic Design: Logos, Themes and Letterheads) – Building Code Division
     

  • @BrowardENV Instagram account established purely for environmental content to increase community outreach. Information shared on the channel ranges from air quality updates and sustainable living to information about manatee and sea turtle seasons. (Electronic Communications: Social Media) - Natural Resources Division

  • We've Got You Covered brochure for employees explaining County benefits and coverage including health, dental, vision and life insurance plans. (Brochures: Multiple Page Booklet) - Human Resources Division

  • Broward.org/NewHires website for new employees of Broward County featuring everything new hires need to know about benefits, retirement and employee incentive programs. (Electronic Communications: Website) – Human Resources Division  

  • Daughters of Miss Lou photo taken in 2019 at the Louise Bennett-Coverley Festival in honor of Jamaican poet and literary figure Louise Bennett-Coverley capturing the exuberance of a live performance. (Photography) - Libraries Division

  • Annual Cultural Forum virtually celebrating the agency’s accomplishments of the past year. (Special Projects: Ceremony or Community Event) - Cultural Division​
