Connecting Communities & Lives
Overview
The Broward Commuter Rail (BCR) North is more than just a transit service; it represents a significant step forward in enhancing mobility and improving the quality of life for Broward County residents. This Broward County Transit (BCT) project focuses on easing congestion, connecting key destinations, and offering a sustainable commuter alternative that improves access for Broward County residents by seamlessly linking Fort Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach, and the cities in between. Less congestion, more connection!
The BCR North, a 15.5-mile section of proposed commuter rail along the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway corridor features strategically located stations in Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Oakland Park, and Downtown Fort Lauderdale.
By addressing critical infrastructure needs and enhancing regional mobility, BCR North plays a key role in supporting Broward County’s growth and improving transportation options for residents and visitors alike.
This is a pivotal component of the larger Broward Commuter Rail initiative, that will connect communities from Miami-Dade to Palm Beach County. Together, BCR North and South form a cohesive framework for regional integration, offering a reliable, efficient and affordable transit solution that strengthens connections across the region.
Why BCR North Matters
Economic Growth
The project supports Transit-Oriented Development by increasing property values, attracting business investments, and accommodating Broward County's recent population boom.
Access to Opportunities and Improved Quality of Life
Reliable, eco-friendly transit enhances access to jobs, education, and essential services.
Congestion Relief and Environmental Benefits
By reducing congestion on major roadways like I-95 and US-1, commuter rail helps mitigate the traffic impacts of Broward County's growing population. This reduces vehicle emissions, contributes to cleaner air, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.
What’s Next for BCR North?
The Broward County Commission adopted the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) for the BCR North project on April 22, 2025. This major milestone sets the stage for the next phase: the Project Development and Environmental (PD&E) Study. This upcoming study will take a closer look at how the selected alternative could affect the environment, traffic flow, and nearby communities.
Community Engagement Opportunities
Community engagement is essential to the PD&E process. Public input will shape the study, addressing local concerns and ideas. Engagement opportunities will include public meetings, online tools, and neighborhood updates throughout the PD&E phase. Feedback can also be given by emailing us at PREMO@Broward.org.
