Broward County Transit (BCT) is conducting TransitFORWARD 2040 to stay current on community needs, operational issues, and opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of transit service. It will cover the entire BCT service area including existing local fixed routes, express routes, community shuttle routes, paratransit service, and planned bus rapid transit, light rail and commuter rail lines.
The project goals are to:
Recommend operational improvements in the near, mid, and long term that grow ridership
Expand fixed route, community shuttle, and express routes
Integrate the planned premium network (PREMO)
Incorporate mobility on demand (MOD) options
The project started in August 2023. The first phase includes data collection, community engagement, and a technical analysis of existing conditions to identify the key issues and opportunities. In the second phase, draft transit network recommendations will be developed to address those needs. These will be presented to the public for feedback and will be revised in the third phase to create a final plan that will guide BCT’s service development.
The final plan will have recommendations that:
Modernize the network based on projected demand
Identify recommendations designed to increase annual ridership
Identify solutions to address operational or systemic inefficiencies
Update BCT’s internal service standards and performance criteria for optimal network performance
