Florida State Statute 489.127(1)(f):
"No person shall engage in the business or act in the capacity of a contractor or advertise himself or herself or a business organization as available to engage in the business or act in the capacity of a contractor without being duly registered or certified."
Certified Contractor License
A certified contractor may work anywhere in the State of Florida and must be recognized by all local jurisdictions.
Registered Contractor License
A registered contractor may work only in the local geographic area that issued the license.
Broward County Certificate of Competency
A Broward County contractor may work only in Broward County.
A local Business Tax Receipt
A local business tax receipt, formerly known as an occupational license, is only a tax certificate and does not qualify an individual to act as a contractor.
