October is here. The weather should be getting a little cooler and there are certainly plenty of activities that you, your family, friends and even your pets might enjoy.
The excitement is growing for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on October 28-November 1. More than $3 billion worth of boats, yachts, super yachts, and boating accessories will be on display. The featured venues are the Bahia Mar Yachting Center, the Greater Fort Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center, the Hall of Fame Marina and the Las Olas Marina. Even if you can’t buy; it’s always fun to look!
There are a variety of cultural events in October. To involve your whole family, you may want to take advantage of the Broward Center’s 2010-11 Family Fun Series and Subscriptions. At each Family Fun performance enjoy pre-show face painting and a post-show snack. Performances take place throughout Broward County. Britishmania kicks off the month of October at the Amaturo Theater. Friday, October 1 and Saturday October 2 the Beatles Tribute will reflect the historical evolution of the Beatles. Melissa Manchester performs at the Miniaci Performing Arts Center on October 2nd. Young Frankenstein - Broadway Across America begins at the Au-Rene Theater on October 6-17.
The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood plays host to a series of artists in October. Stephan Tugrul and Sinisa Kukec will visit on Thursday, October 21st beginning at 6:00 p.m. Tugrul: En Masse presents a selection of new works by Turkish-American artist. Sinisa Kukec: And Yet Another Wayward Landscape will include sculptures growing from found objects, the walls, floor, and ceiling!
When the water parks close to humans in the fall, they open for one weekend just for dogs. Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24 T.Y. Park in Hollywood will open for dogs. The following weekend it’s a dog day at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines. It’s $1.50 per person and $5 per dog. Pets are also welcome at the 23rd Annual Las Olas Art Fair on October 23-24. Over 150 artists from around the country will be featured.
Right before Halloween, it’s Hallow'green' at the Anne Kolb Nature Center on October 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Create unique fall and holiday arts and crafts using recycled materials. It’s for kids of all ages and admission is $1.00 to the Exhibit Hall.
