Tower Construction

New radio tower sites across Broward County are in various stages of construction and permitting, part of an $80 million project to complete a 16-tower system that will strengthen radio communications for first responders. Twelve sites are complete; four sites are currently in various stages of completion. The County is still awaiting permitting for the East and West Hollywood Tower sites. A new shelter is being installed at the Channel 2 location in McTyre Park in Pembroke Park and the County is still in the negotiating process with the Miami Dade School Board (shared ownership) to replace the existing tower with a new one. The Pompano Beach Club site equipment room construction, antenna/dish and line installation and electrical is set for completion in September with project completion expected in October 2019.

A third-party consultant has determined that West Lake Park in Hollywood, and not the top of the Circ Hotel as preferred by the City of Hollywood is the best location for the West Hollywood location. Permitting is underway.

Public Safety Radio System for First Responders Only

The initial migration of approximately 4,000 local government agency and public school radio users from the public safety radio system to a new local government radio system is complete. The new $1.3 million investment in infrastructure results in a dedicated public safety radio system for first responders and saves money on the cost of radios for local government and public school users.
