Required Training

Introductory Child Care Training Time Frames​

​Child Care Personnel must begin training within the first 90 days of employment in the industry.

All Child Care Facility Personnel are required to complete 40 hours of mandated training and must be completed within one year from the date 

the training began.

All Family Child Care Homes Personnel are required to complete 30 hours of mandated training prior to licensure.



​​Safe Sleep Training​

All child care personnel who provide care to infants at licensed or registered child care programs in Broward County are required to successfully complete the Cribs For Kids Safe S​leep​​ training​ prior to working with infants and again every two years.  This is a web-based class and is free.  You must score at ​least 90% on the quiz at the end of the course.  Upon successful completion of the class you will be able to download a certificate designating you as Safe Sleep Ambassador. Certificates should be printed and placed in employee's perso​nnel files as proof of compliance. 


Additional Required Training

  • Fire Extinguisher Training
  • Five hours of Early Literacy Training
  • Medication Administration
  • Safe Sleep/Shaken Baby Syndrome
  • Annual ten hour in-service training after the first year of licensing.
  • First Aid Training and Pediatric CPR 

Transportation Training

Prior to transportation of children, child care personnel participating in the transportation of children must complete one of the following courses.

  • ​DCF Transportation Safety Course (2 hours)
  • Early Learning Florida's Precautions in Transporting Children
