Accepting Special Needs/Barrier Free Home Rehabilitation pre-applications county-wide.

The Special Needs/Barrier Free (SN/BF) program provides housing modifications and barrier removal for Broward County homeowners with a household member who may have a special needs or disabling condition.  SN/BF services enhance accessibility, provide health and safety repairs, and hurricane hardening, as needed and within budget, enabling residents to continue occupying their homes and​ maintain their independence.

Eligible homeowners' gross household income may not exceed 80% of the Area Median Income based on household size; mortgages and property taxes must be current. Eligible properties include detached single-family homes, townhomes, villas, or condominiums. Duplexes, triplexes, or mobile homes are ineligible.  

A ten (10) year deferred payment forgivable loan will be recorded on the improved property.​

​The MHR program is designed to provide wind mitigation and hurricane repairs, prevent further deterioration, reduce energy loss, and infiltration of outside elements. Improvements may include roof replacement or repair, the installation of impact-resistant windows and doors, and the replacement of air conditioning systems, as needed, all​​ within budget. ​
