Guidelines

There are TWO different applications in the USPP. One is for Clinical placement and the other is for an Administrative internship. Please refer to the appropriate one as it pertains to you.

To qualify for the University Student Practicum Program (USPP), the following criteria must be met:
  • All applicants must be currently enrolled as a student in a higher education institution that we have an established affiliation agreement with during the duration of your practicum. Volunteer status not accepted.
  • All applicants will be Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral level students.

The following items must be submitted with a complete Application (for clinical and administrative):
  • Recently updated Resume
  • Program Essay

Following receipt of a completed application, the student will be required to do the following:
  • 1st interview
  • 2nd interview - if selected as a finalist; then the following applies:
  • Background Investigation Disclosure Form for a Level I background check through the Broward County Human Resource Department; or depending on site placement, Level II (through a contracted service provider)
  • Submit a Copy of Driver's License or State ID
  • TB test - only for clinical placements
  • Attend a week-long onboarding session and complete required trainings prior to the start of the Practicum - only for clinical students.
  • All students will attend a one hour USPP Virtual Orientation prior to starting Practicum/Internship

 The USPP placement consists of:
  • For all students, at least 2 days per week, with a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week.
  • Commitment of at least 2 consecutive semesters (6 months up to a year for clinical students is mandatory). You will be expected to distribute your clinical hours evenly each semester, so that you are not completing all your hours within the first 2 months, then leaving and coming back at the start of the next semester. This is not allowed and will deem you ineligible to continue the program.
  • Non-clinical students will be allowed to intern for 1 or 2 semesters.
  • We will only honor your placement for the Practicum Period selected on the application. No extensions will be granted beyond the agreed time period. Also, students who have already participated in this program will not be granted another rotation at a later period due to  limited slots.

USPP is an unpaid opportunity. The student will need to provide their own transportation to and from the agency and any community events in which they might need to participate. Travel is not reimbursed by the agency and a stipend is not available for the interns.

USPP Participants are not represented by a labor union and are eligible to apply and compete for an open position via a formal selection process if all job qualifications are met.

It is important to note that students must complete the entire Practicum and unapproved absences are grounds for immediate termination from this program. Additionally, delayed or non-responsiveness to USPP Coordinator requests for documentation or information will conclude your placement opportunity, throughout the application period and through the Practicum.

Call or Email for the application. You will need to ask for a Clinical or Administrative application.
