Broward County's Manatee Protection Plan
What is the Manatee Protection Plan?
The Manatee Protection Plan (MPP) is a federal and state-approved planning document put together by the County, as directed by the sitting governor, to address long term manatee management. The MPP is designed to balance waterway access with imapct to manatees from boat traffic.
13 "key" counties were required to produce such documents. Since then, many other counties have voluntarily developed their own MPP.
Broward is one of the initial 13 counties in Florida required to have an MPP, which was approved in 2008. The three key elements are Boating Safety, Education and Awareness, and the Boat Facility Siting Plan.
