The Design Consultant for demolition of the existing Gore Building completed the Construction Documents and will be submitting the project to the Building Department for permit review in mid-March, as scheduled. The Environmental Consultant submitted the Site Assessment Report to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in November 2025, received FDEP's feedback and submitted follow-up responses to FDEP on January 20, 2026. Options for remediation of the site are pending from FDEP. Any further actions on the site will be based on FDEP's final determination. 8. Resiliency Plan Update (NEW)

In February 2025, the County completed a County-wide Risk Assessment and Resilience Plan to address current and evolving flood risk through diverse adaptation strategies. The Plan identifies the improvements required by the system of neighborhood canals (over 1,800 miles), pumps, drainage systems, and seawalls for flood protection that operate throughout our jurisdiction. Operation, maintenance and improvements to said system are a multijurisdictional endeavor (i.e., municipalities, local drainage districts, various community associations and, at the regional level, the Army Corps of Engineers). This Plan requires an estimated $8B over a 30-year period. Towards this end, the County appropriated $5M to partner with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to fund a Section 203 Broward Basin Flood Resiliency Study focused on primary canals and is actively working to gain Congressional authorization of the study recommendations as part of the 2026 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). Also, the County gained a $50 Million authorization for water infrastructure improvements under Section 219 of the Water Resources Development Act. In FY26, the County allocated $1.5 Million for construction of the culvert projects consistent the County's Resilience Plan. A grant announcement led to four project awards by the Commission on March 3, 2026, resulting in a total investment of $11.3M, including local municipal match funds.
