5th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit ... A Highly Successful Event         

Advancing Our Regional Plan for Community Resilience

Elected officials, federal agency representatives, experts from local governments, scientists, nonprofit and business leaders and concerned citizens met for this year’s Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit on November 7-8, 2013, at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale.

Highlights of this year's Summit included: 

  • Workshop on innovative tools for planning and financing local adaptation initiatives
  • Session promoting community energy strategies
  • Panel highlighting federal agency leadership on climate issues
  • Panel featuring local officials from the Northeast and mid-Atlantic discussing recovery from Superstorm Sandy
  • Congressional Town Hall featuring members of Congress from southeast Florida and other coastal states

2014 Climate Change Task Force Meetings Scheduled

Quarterly Meetings are scheduled to occur on: February 20, May 15, August 21 and November 20.

Meetings for the Climate Change Task Force will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 pm at Broward County Government Center, Room 430, 115 S. Andrews Ave. Fort Lauderdale FL 33301.

Climate Change Element (CCE) / Land Use Plan (LUP)

The Broward County Commission passed the Climate Change Element into the Broward County Comprehensive Plan and also the Land Use Plan and Priority Planning Areas Map Amendments.   Climate change concerns and mitigation / adaptation strategies are now incorporated into the Broward County planning process. Climate Literacy Guide Book

Climate Literacy-The Essential Principles of Climate Science Guide by U.S. Global Change Research Program presents important information for individuals and communities to understand Earth's climate, impacts of climate change, and approaches for adapting and mitigating change. Principles in the guide can serve as discussion starters or launching points for scientific inquiry. The guide can also serve educators who teach climate science as part of their science curricula. This publication was made available in English and Spanish language.
