Land Stewardship

​​​​​​​The Land Stewardship Program was created in 2008 providing funding for the ecological restoration of conservation and other publicly-owned natural lands and for the expedited development of bond-acquired green space and open space sites through two grant programs: "Partners in Preservation" and "Parks for People". It is also tasked with monitoring and ensuring appropriate management of the 2000 Safe Parks and Land Preservation Bond Program acquired sites through the "Keep It Green" Monitoring Program.

The “Parks for People” Grant Program was a five-year capital improvement program to expedite and supplement the development of Bond-acquired Green Space and Open Space sites that propose use of "green components”. These "green components" are facilities or services provided above and beyond approved sites’ master plan. Among the green components funded were recycled materials for playgrounds and shelters, low flow water fixtures and irrigation methods, solar panels for lighting, on site trash collectors. More…

​The "Partners in Preservation" Grant Program was a five-year capital improvement program to fund the ecological restoration of publicly-owned natural lands within Broward County though the removal of invasive non-native vegetation and replanting with appropriate native plants on public properties which contain a defined Native Vegetative Community. Additionally, the Land Stewardship Program ensures that entities managing bond acquired sites will "Keep it Green" by providing a monitoring compliance program.  For a listing of bond acquired sites by city click here.​

"Natural Lands Inventory" Massive population growth sparked by the economic boom of the last century created great pressures on the County’s natural ecosystems, fragmenting historically extensive native plant communities into smaller parcels of land.
