Making the Invisible Visible

Broward County is a proud supporter of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, a globally recognized initiative allowing those with a non-visible disability to discreetly indicate they need a helping hand, understanding, more time or patience by wearing a sunflower symbol. This simple yet powerful tool ensures they receive the assistance needed.

Just because we cannot see it, does not mean it is not there. Some disabilities, conditions or chronic illnesses are not immediately obvious to others. That is why the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower was created - to encourage inclusivity, acceptance and understanding. Simply by wearing the Sunflower symbol, you're letting everyone know that you might need extra help.

Where do I get a Sunflower Identifier?

Broward County is Sunflower-trained and ready to assist. Residents and visitors may pick up a free Sunflower identifier, such as lanyard or pin (subject to availability), by contacting one of our Sunflower-friendly coordinators:

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower
Not all disabilities are visible. In fact, 80% of disabilities are hidden. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower can be worn to indicate that the wearer has an invisible disability and may require extra support, understanding or a little more time.
