Holiday Lowdown

  • All Broward County nature centers, natural areas, and other parks will be open on Sunday, November 11 (Veterans Day) and on Monday, November 12 (Veterans Day Observed). Monday exceptions are Deerfield Island Park and Markham Target Range, based on their regular schedules.

  • All parks (except Deerfield Island) will also be open on both Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Thursday and Friday, November 22 and 23. Regional parks will charge their regular holiday gate fee of $1.50/person (children 5 and under free) on both days.

  • And as a heads-up for December, remember that all Broward County parks will be closed on Christmas Day, the one day we’re closed all year.

A Taste of the Tropics

Rev up your taste buds at the 17th annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival held at Markham Park & Target Range. The festival celebrates all things jerk – an authentic, fiery Jamaican marinade – on Sunday, November 11th from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Taste traditional favorites like jerk chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, and lobster, or more daring choices like jerk yams and jerk ice cream. There will also be live music, sporting competitions, cooking demos and prizes.

Tickets are $30 in advance, available online (service fees apply) as well as at Jamaican businesses throughout the tri-county area. Children 10 and under are free. Staycation: Family Bed & Breakfast Weekend

Want a vacation, but can only afford a staycation? You won’t be disappointed with our Family Bed & Breakfast Weekend retreat at Quiet Waters Park.

Enjoy a weekend at a campsite with a spacious 10-by-10-foot platform tent, fire ring, barbecue grill, picnic table, water, electricity, and access to showers and restrooms. The weekend comes equipped with fun activities like a hayride, movie, continental breakfast, and a guided nature walk. The package costs $85 per campsite for up to four campers, two more campers may be added for $5 each. Check in at 3 p.m. on Friday, November 16 and checkout at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 18. There are also dates in December and January.

On any given weekend at a Broward County Park, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained like cable-skiing at SkiRixen in Quiet Waters, nature programs and hikes at our natural areas, special events and festivals in our sprawling regional parks, and a variety of entertainment for families, children, and dogs. With an annual Parks Passport, you never have to worry about paying the $1.50-per-person gate entrance fee (children 5 and under free) that’s in effect on weekends and county holidays at most of our regional parks. The credit card-style passports are good for one year from the date of purchase.

Remembrance of Things Past – Way Past

Relive the magic of the past at Camelot Days Medieval Festival, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, November 10 and 11 and November 17 and 18, at T.Y. (Topeekeegee Yugnee) Park. Watch the Royal Chessmen battle with swords and staffs in a Living Chess Game, listen to stories from Robin Hood and Maid Marian (first weekend only), enjoy live music, hearty food and drink, magic by jesters and jousters, challenging games, shop for handcrafted treasures in the Artists’ Market, and more.

​Holiday Traditions

Holiday Fantasy of Lights is back for its 24th year of seasonal family fun starting Wednesday, November 21. This year, like previous years, you can run, walk, bike, or drive through our larger than life holiday light displays at Tradewinds Park & Stables.

As part of the holiday tradition, runners and walkers can get a sneak peek of the lights extravaganza at the Fantasy of Lights 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, November 17 – four days before the attraction opens. The 5K run starts at 6 p.m. The walk and free Kids Fun Run for ages 2 through 12 starts at 7 p.m. After the race, there will be a live band and an awards ceremony. On Sunday, November 18, it’s the bicyclists turn to preview the lights. Bike Through the Lights lasts from 6 to 8 p.m. Bicyclists are encouraged to decorate their bikes to match the festivities of the season. The cost of the bike ride is $8/person. Participants must provide their own bicycles and helmets are required for ages 16 and under. No pets, walkers, runners, or skaters will be permitted. Family Hayride & Campfire Series 


Keep cozy by the campfire at our Family Hayride & Campfire Series happening at a park near you. This month four parks will participate in the program. For $3.50 plus sales tax, you get one hayride, one bag of fixings for s’mores, and as many helpings of good old-fashioned fun that you can take. Children 2 and under are free. Contact the park of your choice for preregistration and prepayment. The regular weekend gate fee of $1.50/person (children 5 and under free) will be in effect at Markham. The event at all locations starts at 6:30 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m.
