Take A Hike! Day

​We're celebrating National Take a Hike Day and raising funds for the United Way of Broward County. All of these events last one hour on Sunday, November 17 and are open to all ages. There is a recommended $1 donation per person minimum with all proceeds to benefit the United Way of Broward County.

9 a.m.

Guided Nature Walk
Tall Cypress Natural Area, 3700 Turtle Run Blvd., Coral Springs
Meander through the wetlands along the Tall Cypress boardwalk looking for owls in the pinelands.

10 a.m.

 

Butterfly Hike
Long Key Natural Area & Nature Center, 3501 S.W. 130th Ave., Davie
Visit our Bird and Butterfly Garden and walk along our nature trail looking for the 30+ species of butterflies that visit Long Key. If you spot at least 10 species, you'll be eligible to receive a certificate from Wings Over Florida. Binoculars are recommended but not required.

Everglades Hike
Everglades Holiday Park, 21940 Griffin Rd., Fort Lauderdale
Come explore the edge of the Everglades and experience the river of grass. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing the can get wet and muddy.

Guided Nature Walk
Deerfield Island Park, 1720 Deerfield Island Park, Deerfield Beach
Explore the mangrove shoreline and coastal hammock of this island park. Meet at the Sullivan Park dock area at 9:45 a.m. for the island boat shuttle. Parking is free but please register your vehicle.

Plankton Hike
Anne Kolb Nature Center, 751 Sheridan St., Hollywood
Take the Fishing Pier Trail to collect plankton. View them under the microscope and learn about their role in nature.

10:30 a.m.

Guided Nature Walk
Secret Woods Nature Center, 2701 W. State Rd. 84, Dania Beach
Explore the trails at Secret Woods to learn about the unique ecology of South Florida's forests.

1 p.m.

Guided Nature Walk
Fern Forest Nature Center, 201 Lyons Rd. South, Coconut Creek
Native plant and animal species will be discussed and identified while exploring a remnant of what "Old Florida" use to look like along our Cypress Creek Boardwalk Trail.

2 p.m.

Guided Nature Walk
Miramar Pineland, 3600 S. University Dr., Miramar
Learn about the history of the pinelands - its people, plants, and animals.
