PEOPLE WALKING AND RUNNING

  • Use sidewalks when available. When NO SIDEWALK is available, walk facing traffic on far-left side of street.

PEOPLE BIKING

  • Bicycles are vehicles. In the roadway, bicyclists assume the same rights and duties as a motorist. Just as cars, Bicyclists must yield to pedestrians. Bike with traffic on roadways and follow all traffic control devices/signs. Bicycle lanes are for the exclusive use of bicyclists.
  • When riding on the sidewalk, assume the responsibilities and duties of a pedestrian. People biking on paths or sidewalks should bike on the right side of the path and pass on the left with an audible warning.
  • While biking between dusk and dawn, a bright white light is required in the front and a red reflective light is required in the back.
  • Florida law requires children under 16 years old to wear a properly fitted helmet; however, helmets are encouraged for everyone.
  • Put the phone away. Never bike distracted. Do not wearing ear buds while riding. It is important to be able to hear traffic and fellow bicyclists approaching.

  • It is against the law to text and drive. Put your phone away.
  • Obey all traffic control devices, signs and markings.  Drive the speed limit. Stop at all stop bars at stop signs and red lights. Yield at yield bars at yield signs. Stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk.
  • Remember, look left at roundabouts and always yield to cars and bicyclists actively in the roundabout unless otherwise noted by signs or traffic control devices.
  • Always give bicyclists 3 feet when passing.
  • Always look twice for bicycles adjacent to your vehicle or approaching on your right when making right hand turns.
  • When utilizing parallel on-street parking, always look behind you for approaching bicyclists before opening your car door.
