Professional Standards/Human Rights
The Professional Standards/Human Rights Section is responsible for ensuring that all Broward County Government agencies and employees comply with Broward County policies, procedures and ordinances set forth by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, as well as state and federal laws including Equal Employment Opportunity, the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). There are three areas of specialty:

  • Professional Standards – This area investigates “whistleblower” complaints from Broward County employees regarding ethics, Cone of Silence or other workplace violations such as discrimination or harassment; any allegation of retaliation resulting from these complaints; and wage recovery complaints from any company that does work within Broward County.
  • Human Rights – This area investigates unlawful discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodation.
  • ADA/HIPAA -  This area reviews requests for ADA accommodations by Broward County employees and investigates alleged violations of HIPAA regulations by Broward County HIPAA-covered agencies.
