Florida International University (FIU), the public Florida university selected to draw the new districts, must adhere to the following Redistricting Principles:
- All districts must be contiguous.
- No district shall be drawn with the intent to advantage or disadvantage any political party or incumbent.
- No district shall be drawn with the intent or result of denying or abridging the equal opportunity of racial or language minorities to participate in the political process.
- No district shall be drawn that diminishes language or racial minorities’ ability to elect a candidate of their choice.
- Districts shall be (1) as nearly equal in population as practicable, (2) compact, (3) and, where feasible, use existing political and geographical boundaries.
On Thursday, September 9, FIU made a presentation to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners about the redistricting process.
