Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us.  This Privacy Policy explains how the app “Broward Home Damage Assessment" (the “App") accesses, collects, uses, and shares certain user data.

What Data the App Collects

The App collects your location, any photos you submit, home damage and flood levels, your interaction with the App (such as taps, clicks, scrolling information, or other information about how you interacts with the app), and crash data (if any) (collectively, the “Collected Data"). Collected Data does not include any personal information as provided under Section 501.171, Florida Statutes. The App utilizes the Collected Data for various purposes, including to authenticate who you are, to enable certain features, to prevent fraud, to implement security measures, and to improve the performance of the App. Collected Data is not used for tracking purposes other than to identify the location of the home/flood damage that you have reported using the App.

How the App Discloses, Handles, and Secures Collected Data

Collected Data is disclosed to agencies within Broward County government that may need access to the data for their business purposes, including Broward County's Emergency Management Division and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and the Broward County Geographic Information Systems Group (for GIS mapping). Collected Data may also be shared with state or other local entities or organizations, as well in response to a public records request under applicable law. Internal use of Collected Data is identifiable (that is, it can identify the particular user at issue). Elements of Collected Data may be published on the County's websites. Any publication of Collected Data would include the location at which the home/flood damage was reported and may include any pictures submitted. Please note that the location of home/flood damage may, in some cases, imply or reveal certain information about the identity of the person submitting the location of the home. Broward County is subject to Florida public records law, and therefore is required to produce public records if requested to do so under Chapter 119, Florida Statutes. Absent an applicable statutory exemption, any data or information collected by or relating to the App, including Collected Data, would be required to be produced to the requestor. Broward County's collection and storage of Collected Data is secured by data encryption and transmission over secured connections (i.e., https).

Retention and Deletion of Collected Data

Collected Data is retained by Broward County until no longer needed or the expiration of the statutorily required retention period. At the end of the applicable period of retention, the Collected Data would be deleted.

Development and Contact Information

The App was developed by Broward County. For more information on the collection or use of Collected Data, or for any other questions concerning privacy or this Privacy Policy, please contact Broward County as follows: PrivacyPolicy@broward.org
