The Southeast Florida Climate Leadership Summit

The Southeast Florida Climate Leadership Summit is the annual flagship event of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, convening leaders across disciplines and sectors to address climate challenges and advance resilience strategies. It focuses on sharing knowledge, showcasing solutions, building partnerships, and exploring innovation to help Southeast Florida thrive in the face of climate impacts such as sea level rise, extreme heat, and flooding. Previous Summits have attracted nationally and internationally renowned speakers, more than 800 attendees, dozens of exhibitors, and highlighted major regional projects and cutting-edge tools.

Summit Impacts

The Summit goes beyond conversation — it’s where regional climate planning meets action. It helps communities:

  • Learn from regional climate science and projections
  • Hear about successful resilience projects and strategies
  • Identify new tools, policies, and partnerships
  • Build a coordinated response to shared climate impacts that cross county boundaries, such as sea level rise and extreme heat.

The Summit brings together diverse stakeholders — from private sector leaders to environmental advocates — so that climate solutions are not just discussed but activated.

The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact

The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact is a partnership between Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach Counties launched in 2009 to coordinate climate mitigation and adaptation across county lines.

Its purpose is to:

  • Build collaborative regional climate action rather than having each county act alone.
Develop shared climate strategies (such as greenhouse gas reduction and resilience plans).
  • Advocate jointly for state and federal support for Southeast Florida’s climate priorities.
  • Align planning tools and data so local governments can work from common scientific foundations.

The Compact has become a widely recognized model for regional climate governance and cooperation.
