FORENSIC SCIENCE CENTER SCOPE
The new combined facility will be a multi-story building or series of buildings. The program currently consists of, but is not limited to the following: toxicology laboratories, crime laboratories, autopsy suites, administration offices, sally-port, training rooms, central plant, building systems, specialized (laboratory) mechanical ventilation, electrical, plumbing systems and redundant power; other construction services will include roadway improvements, utility work, underground cistern, PV panel arrays, and stand-alone parking garage for approximately 250 vehicles with EV charging stations.
The site is currently a vacant parcel comprising approximately 7.29 acres. The program is currently estimated at 175,000 gross square feet.
The facility shall be designed under Leadership in Environmental and Engineering Design (LEED) guidelines - version V4.1 or current available version. The project will be developed and coordinated using Building Information Modeling (BIM). The project shall comply with Broward County's Art in Public Places, as approved.
BROWARD COUNTY OFFICE OF MEDICAL EXAMINER & TRAUMA SERVICES (OMETS)
The Broward Office of Medical Examiner & Trauma Services provides forensic services to Broward’s residents, government agencies and health care providers. It also develops programs to improve medical and trauma care services to paramedics and other medical personnel treating residents and visitors during life-threatening emergencies. The team includes forensic pathologists, toxicologists, investigators and photographers who determine cause and manner of death; scientists, trauma care specialists and administrative staff
BROWARD SHERIFF’S OFFICE (BSO) CRIME LAB
BSO’S Crime Laboratory forensic scientists analyze and test physical evidence for all public law enforcement agencies in Broward County. This includes Controlled Substances and DNA and Fingerprint and Firearm examination.
